I've spent thirty-plus years making technology my problem.

JDP Consulting, LLC is me — a software engineer with over three decades of experience spanning DevOps, data engineering, and application development. I'm most fluent in PHP, and have deep, hands-on experience with Python, JavaScript, SQL, and C, across everything from application code to the infrastructure it runs on.

I'm an introvert, and for a long time I assumed a technical career was just a natural fit for that — heads-down, screen, done. Seven years into my career, I had the chance to work from home, and did, until I realized how much I missed people. That's when it clicked: the reason I loved writing software in the first place was that I was removing roadblocks for people. That's still what gets me out of bed in the morning.

That realization pushed me past software alone, into systems design and process engineering — a more holistic view of tooling, where the software is one piece of the solution rather than the whole of it. Just as often, the right fix touches how a team works or a physical process runs, not just the code.

Along the way I've come to think of myself as a tool maker. I like building software and systems that are resilient — the kind that fade into the background instead of demanding constant attention. That's the work I enjoy most: taking on the technology a small business depends on, and modernizing it so the people running that business can focus on what they actually do best, instead of babysitting servers, databases, and brittle scripts.

Small businesses rarely need — or can justify — a full engineering team. What they need is someone who has already earned the scars, seen the failure modes, and knows how to build something that holds up without a pager rotation behind it. That's the gap I work in.
